School Readiness

School readiness skills help children prepare for the expectations and routines of a classroom. These abilities are essential for supporting successful learning, participation, and independence in a school environment.

What are school readiness skills?

School readiness skills include abilities such as following directions, attending to tasks, sitting for group activities, transitioning between activities, early academic skills, and interacting appropriately with teachers and peers. These skills help children adapt to structured learning environments.

Why it matters

  • Supports successful transition into school settings
  • Promotes independence and participation in classroom routines
  • Enhances learning and academic engagement
  • Builds confidence in social and group environments

How we help

Our ABA therapy programs focus on building school readiness skills through individualized, step-by-step instruction. We use structured teaching, visual supports, and simulated classroom activities to help children learn and practice essential skills.

When appropriate, we also incorporate supports such as visual schedules and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), including Speech-Generating Devices (SGDs), to help children follow routines and communicate effectively in the classroom.

We collaborate closely with families, teachers, and other professionals to ensure consistency across settings and to support a smooth and successful transition into school.
